Legacy application modernization

Keep the value. Make room for what's next.

Your production systems hold years of business knowledge. Fabrica learns how they work, rebuilds selected workflows on a modern stack and proves them against the running system before anything moves.

A 30-minute conversation. Bring one business priority, the system behind it and your main constraint. No production access needed.

More room for business progress

Put more of your technology budget toward what comes next.

When maintenance consumes capacity, new products and operational improvements wait. Start with the business opportunity you want to enable and the part of the system that stands in its way.

Investment

Fund progress, not upkeep

Shift spend from keeping an old system alive toward the products and operations the business wants next.

Planning

Renew in manageable steps

Agreed priorities, scope and review points replace open-ended rewrite commitments. An assessment sets out what it takes to begin.

Knowledge

Carry your business knowledge forward

The rules, data relationships and reports that matter become explicit, so owners review a specification instead of guessing at code.

Control

Decide when change reaches the business

New workflows run and are compared alongside the current system. Your team approves each transition against agreed evidence.

The principle

Preserve what the business does. Replace how the technology does it.

Your production system is the specification. Fabrica treats what it actually does as the starting evidence, then turns that evidence into a reviewed System Specification: the contract we build and prove against.

How it works

Observe. Specify. Build. Prove. Shift.

Each step produces something your team can review before the next one starts.

01

Observe

Capture how the running system behaves: requests, jobs, data flows, reports and the rare paths. Anything not yet observed stays an explicit gap.

02

Specify

Owners and engineers review the evidence. At an agreed coverage and confidence level, a versioned System Specification is approved.

03

Build

Engineering agents rebuild the scoped workflow on a modern architecture in short sprints. Engineers review every change.

04

Prove

Both systems run against the same specification. Outcomes, data, reports, permissions and performance are compared and differences resolved.

05

Shift

Production moves one bounded workflow or cohort at a time, with acceptance criteria and rollback. Then the next priority starts.

Proof before traffic

Don't trust the rewrite. Prove it.

A rebuild is only useful if it does what the old system did, including the rules nobody wrote down. Fabrica compares both implementations against the same specification and shows you the result before any customer is moved.

  • Business outcomes and totals reconciled against the current system
  • Data integrity, reports and permissions checked rather than assumed
  • Every difference becomes a tracked fix with an owner
  • Each shift has acceptance criteria and a tested way back

Living documentation

The rules your business runs on, written down at last.

Most legacy systems carry rules that exist only in code and in a few people's heads. Fabrica turns observed behavior and owner reviews into requirements your team can read, question and approve, each linked to the change that implements it.

  • Plain-language requirements with a stable ID
  • Every rule traced to its source and to the work that implements it
  • Documentation kept current as the system changes

Full visibility

See every step, owner and cost.

The work sits on a board you can inspect at any time: what is in progress, which role owns it, what it has cost so far and what is waiting on a human decision. Spending caps pause work rather than let it overrun.

  • Daily and per-item spend, split by role
  • Items that need a person are flagged, never buried
  • Every agent action is recorded against the work item

Ways to start

Two ways to begin.

Both start with the same 30-minute conversation. We are testing which commercial model serves buyers best, so tell us which one you would choose.

Option A · Assessment first

Assess, pilot, then plan

A fixed-scope assessment of one workflow, a bounded pilot that proves it, then a recurring renewal plan built on that evidence.

  • Fee agreed before work starts
  • Pilot scope and acceptance criteria defined up front
  • No commitment beyond the pilot

Option B · Subscription

Renewal as a subscription

One monthly fee for an agreed renewal scope, with your first workflow migration included and upgrades to renewed parts covered.

  • Predictable payments for agreed scope
  • A visible renewal backlog you prioritize
  • Price quoted after a short assessment

Common questions

Before you book

Does every system need rebuilding?

No. Keeping a stable system, upgrading it or refactoring a narrow part may be the better investment. Fabrica's reconstruction approach is for cases where replacement earns its place, and the first conversation is where we find out.

Do we need to freeze development while you rebuild?

Not by default. Parallel builds and incremental replacement do not need a whole-system freeze. If a freeze is needed for a specific scope, we agree what it covers and how long it lasts before work starts. Our target is days or weeks for an agreed scope, and a pilot measures it.

Who stays in control?

A business leader sponsors the work. Your CTO or engineering lead partners on scope, evidence and acceptance, and your technical team decides when each workflow shifts.

What does the first conversation involve?

Thirty minutes on one business priority, the system behind it and the constraints on changing it. You leave with a suggested first scope. No production access is needed.

What would you like the business to do next?

Book a 30-minute conversation about one priority and the system behind it. You leave with a practical first step.
